Stuttgart Exchange
I've been tinkering with my 911 ever since I bought it some twenty plus years ago. Throughout my ownership the car has gone through restoration, modification and now maintenance.
During these years I have had to source many replacement parts as well as accumulated a whole range of spares. Finding spare parts has been an interesting experience to say the least. I've had the pleasure of meeting some really interesting people, who like me, share a love for all tings Porsche. Buying parts or services from these people has been an absolute delight. At the other end of the scale however, I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with not so nice people whose sole intent it would seem is to fleece the unwary customer of every penny in their wallet.
This gave me the idea of creating a website where Porsche enthusiasts looking to buy or sell their parts could go with the relative re-assurance that they are among fellow enthusiasts. The website is coined ‘Stuttgart eXchange' (hopefully for obvious reasons), and is an auction site dedicated to the Porsche community.
To use the site you have to be a registered member. Registration is free, simple and takes less than two minutes to complete. Once registered you can enjoy the many benefits that Stuttgart eXchange has to offer. As an auction site it helps ensure that items are sold at a reasonable price for buyers wile achieving the best return for the seller.
The rules are quite simple. You can list anything for sale that is Porsche related. Cars, parts, spares, accessories, clothing, services, number plates are all welcome for auction.
Stuttgart eXchange has all the features you'd expect from a large auction site, including:
(i) Aside from writing your detailed description, you can upload up to 5 photo's of the item to be listed for auction;
(ii) Auction duration can be from as short as a day, up to a month;
(iii) You can select a photo to appear as a thumbnail to make it easier for people to find your item in the auction listings;
(iv) There are various categories to ensure your items are listed in the correct place, as well as make it simple for people searching for items to buy;
(v) ‘Minimum bid price' lets you set where the auction price should start;
(vi) ‘Buy Now' means you can sell an item at a fixed price. Great for buyers who don't want to wait until the auction ends;
(vii) ‘Auction watch' lets you keep an eye on items you are interested in and receive automated updates on the price as the auction develops;
(viii) ‘Your Item Search' lets you receive instant notification when an item is listed that you are interested in, so you can place your bids early;
(ix) ‘Proxy bidding' means you can enter the highest amount you'd like to bid, but the proxy feature will only place the minimum bid required to put you in the lead;
(x) Relisting items that don't sell can be done at the click of the mouse, saving you the effort of creating the advertisement all over again;
(xi) Email a friend lets you send a link to an item to someone you think might be interested in the item for sale.
(xii) There is also a comprehensive online help feature providing a step-by-step guide to listing your items for sale.
Stuttgart eXchange was launched over the weekend of October 24th 2009. It has already attracted many members and has thousands of hits each day. The website is run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. There are no fees, commissions or hidden charges. Use of the website including membership is completely free.
